How do I filter plants by specific characteristics?
Narrow down the plant library by sunlight, water needs, size, and other characteristics.
The Plant Library filter enables you to narrow down thousands of plants by specifying requirements like sunlight, water needs, and size, rather than manually scrolling through all options.
Steps to filter plants
- Access the filter - Click the Plant icon on the right side of your screen
- Open filter menu - Click the filter icon (funnel) next to the search bar
- Select your criteria:
- Hardiness Zone (auto-set by location, adjustable)
- Sun Requirements (full sun, partial shade, full shade)
- Water Needs (low, moderate, high)
- Plant Height (minimum/maximum range)
- Plant Width (minimum/maximum range)
- Bloom Time (by flowering season)
- Plant Function (bloom, foliage, texture)
- Additional characteristics
- Apply filters - Click Apply or updates occur automatically as selections are made
- Browse results - View the narrowed plant options
Important notes
Data Limitations: Filters only apply to plants that have data for the selected characteristic. Plants lacking specific database values may still appear in filtered results.
Clearing Filters: Remove all filters by clicking "Clear all filters" or deselect individual options.
Troubleshooting
If you cannot locate an expected plant, active filters may be hiding it. For example, filtering for "Full Sun" will exclude shade-loving plants from results. Reset filters to view the complete plant catalog.
